History Of National Dolphin Day
It was approximately 50 million years ago that certain four-legged ground-oriented creatures began enjoying an increasing amount of time underwater, and as a result, they began to evolve. Their bodies began to change, and they ultimately lost their capacity to move around on the ground. These creatures bore the identity of Gordon’s at the time of their discovery, and they were amphibious mammals resembling that dolphin. Squalodons were a type of dinosaur that existed in our oceans for approximately going back to 30 years.
Despite the fact that such whales having been blessed with tooths didn’t hail directly from dolphins in a manner known to us today, they did perform echolocation. Echolocation is a technique used mostly by dolphins to traverse deep waters by using sound waves as navigational aid. Squalodons and dolphins generally rely on echolocation for navigation, which is a distinguishing attribute of both species.
It was during the Miocene period, roughly 20 million years prior, when echolocation evolved into the modern form we recognize it in. Dolphin-like engaged echolocators and schooling behavior were found in aquatic animals that are currently believed to be related to the ancient Kentriodontids. As a result of this evolution, we happen to have the dolphins we came to love so dearly.
Poaching and hunting have put dolphin populations in jeopardy. Numerous dolphins are dying as a result of the planet getting rapidly warming and changes are happening in the climate arena. There are several tragedies related to Japanese dolphin hunting techniques that were highlighted by the American documentary movie titled “Cove” in 2009. An Oscar for Best Documentary Feature went to the movie, which assisted raise more awareness of dolphin slaughter and its impact on the species.
