Congress proclaimed December 13 as National Horse Day in 2004, and ever since then, Americans have been celebrating the day as a way of honoring and admiring the horse’s role in helping to shape our country to what it is today but also the role they currently play for the country. Practically speaking, horses contribute nearly $9.2 billion to the US economy.

Whether they prove to be helping to plow the fields, carry foods and diverse sort of supplies across the rural areas, help in the movement of livestock or provide the serene calm to stresses human by equine therapy- horses have been able to cocoon themselves in the cycle of life in the US.

Colonialism bears the credit for the arrival of horses in America but the great plains and mountains in the west have been responsible for the boon, survival and thriving of horses. Rodeos are considered as a lively and revered part of the American West’s history, and horses are in demand to get work done in many rough and rural areas.
