History Of National Space Day

It wouldn’t be wrong to state that the history of National Space Day begins at the birth of the universe when extreme temperature and pressure caused the Big Bang, which exploded the universe and everyone and everything into emergence.  Ever since then, those who have been blessed by the wand of curiosity have been captivated by space and its state of feeling both close and far. While ancient cultures recognized objects in the sky as divine beings, it was the ancient Greeks who formed the study of stars and planets into what we now call astronomy. Even though the ancient Greeks proposed the heliocentric system, it wasn’t created and launched until 1543, when Copernicus illustrated his concepts regarding the planets orbiting the sun.

Astronomy progressed even more in the 17th century by Galileo Galilei, who happens to be the bearer of the title of “the father of astronomy” due to his zealous quest for it against the aspirations of his patrons, workmates, as well as the Pope. Even though he invested a large portion of his life under home detention for his task, he created crucial instruments for exploring space and clearly demonstrated his concepts. Hundreds of years later, when the Cold War adversaries, America and Russia, started a space race, space continued to remain a polarizing topic. The two nations started competing to be the first to accomplish space travel and, ultimately, land a man on the moon. When Apollo 11 and its team of cosmonauts went to the moon during the date of July 16, 1969, it was America’s triumph.

Former astronaut and senator John Glenn established National Space Day as a one-time occurrence around 1997, and it was gradually spread to International Space Day around 2001 for the sort of attraction it managed to gather! Suns, stars, moons, and an endless number of realms! Our mind is unable to imagine the magnitude of the extension of space let alone comprehend it!   What’s genuinely stunning concerning space is that it could appear to be infinite, but it contains millions of billions of mysteries, each one vital to maintaining everything within the place. Humans have only gotten a taste of the mysteries that this unlimited void known as space contains. However, that doesn’t entail that celebration of what we know so far and the vastness of what we don’t know isn’t worth exploring!

Every year on the first Friday in May, scientists, astronomers, astronauts, science enthusiasts, and others celebrate National Space Day, commemorating the enigmas of space and far beyond. Throughout this yearly commemoration, there is much to bring up and discover regarding space; from documentary films on TV to dialogue on web forums, everybody can certainly learn about space. The heritage of space is longer than the earth’s history, dating back to the Big Bang, which prompted life, time, and existence. Lockheed Martin established the annual celebration of space on Earth in 1997 the day to endorse space and STEM fields amongst the youth. Former astronaut Senator John Glenn expanded the scope of National Space Day celebrations around the year 2001, inspiring everybody to partake in and gain knowledge regarding space exploration.

How to Celebrate National Space Day 2022?

Look Up at The Stars

Once night falls, stargazing offers a gateway into the infinite universe beyond. Recognizing your constellations can also help you discover your way back home! Looking at the stars always raises our spirit and makes us feel that it’s worth dreaming about. Don’t believe us just look at the painting of Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” then!

Gravity test

Gravity is what holds the Earth in place and prevents us from collapsing into the sun. Dropping objects and observing them fall allows you to see how gravity affects objects of varying masses. Just don’t attempt it with anything fragile!

Stream Some of Your Preferred Space Movies.

Space movies happen to be our jam! We feel like drifting through the weightless universe while watching those amazing movies and documentaries! What about you though? Have you thought about checking out those space movies that would give the feeling of floating through time and space!

Arrange a Space Themed Party

You can also arrange a space-themed party on this day! All you have got to do is tell everyone to wear space-themed suits or any dresses containing the resemblance of space vibe! Then party hard because you know there is no falling in space! You can serve your guests’ astronaut foods as you all continue to share space trivia with each other!

Why We Love National Space Day

We love being bombarded with news of the incredible advances in science and space travel that have occurred over the course of history, as well as pondering our place in this vast universe! Explorations come in many shapes and dimensions, even if you’re trying to travel throughout space or attending someplace unique for the very first time, and we prefer to make the most of them when they occur! We’re still looking forward to learning about space and what appears to be happening in it.
